Is it because Ron Paul isn't the best of orators? Is it because he doesn't look as "presidential" as the other candidates? Is it that Americans in general have lost their yearning for liberty? Have we become too dependent on our imperial federal government? Is it because a minority of Ron Paul's supporters, who gain the most media attention, are wackos? I think the answer is all of the above.
I guess I'm just troubled by the fact that when someone stands up proudly and says we're going to get back to our American roots of strict Constitutionalism, and has a voting record to back it up, Americans are less than enthusiastic in their support for that person.
The "conservative" Republican party will most likely nominate one of the two least conservative Republicans in the race. And so far, throngs of people are coming out in support of both of them. It truly baffles me.
America deserves what she gets. Her people have truly forgotten the principles she was founded upon. So, we will continue to drift further and further away from limited government and maximum freedom into the black hole of government dependence and nanny-state socialism which the democrats are eager to deliver.
Alexander Tytler said it best...
- A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.
- The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
- From bondage to spiritual faith;
- From spiritual faith to great courage;
- From courage to liberty;
- From liberty to abundance;
- From abundance to complacency;
- From complacency to apathy;
- From apathy to dependence;
- From dependence back into bondage.
